  • Real Betis look to add Thievy Bifouma to bolstered attack

Following the signing of Dutch midfielder Rafael Van der Vaart, Real Betis look to continue improving their already dominant attacking strike team of Ruben Castro and Jorge Molina with the addition of Espanyol winger Thievy Bifouma.

Thievy is keen to leave Espanyol, expressing his desire to leave the Catalan side last season but instead was sent out on loan to Almeria, who were relegated at the end of the season and declined the option to purchase the player on a permanent deal.

Thievy will like leave on loan again this season and while the Congolese international has had his share of behavioural issues in the past, manager Pepe Mel believes he can get the player on the right track and bring out the enormous potential he’s shown flashes of in the past, just as he did when he brought him on loan to West Bromwich Albion at the end of the 2013-14 season.

Espanyol are keen to sort Thievy’s future before the team regroups for their pre-season training in several weeks time, meaning a deal could be done in the coming days.

Thievy scored four goals and one assist in 29 La Liga appearances last season, splitting minutes at the striker position with Tomer Hemed while also playing behind the striker.
