  • Benito Villamarín voted best stadium in Spain by fans

Real Betis are having a turbulent season to say the least, but their Benito Villamarín stadium was voted as the best inSpain during the 2012-2013 season, by supporters associations throughout the country.

One of the classic football stadiums in Spain and instantly recognisable, the Benito Villamarín home of Real Betis may be a little dated these days, but not only do the local fans enjoy the experience on match days, the visiting fans do too.

The National Federation of Fan Clubs, comprising of official fan groups from every Primera and Segunda team, last November voted the Benito Villamarín as the best stadium in the Primera.

Every year, these fan groups base their votes on the facilities, the atmosphere and the atmosphere at grounds around the country. The winner of the 2011-2012 award went to the very modern Cornllà-El Prat home of Espanyol, but this year the supporters groups chose one of the more classic venues in Spanish football.

Real Betis president Miguel Guillén proudly received the award from the leader of the official Betis supporters club, Juan de Dios Álvarez, ahead of the weekend victory against Espanyol.

If you want to learn more about the history of the Benito Villamarín, or any other Spanish stadium past and present, we highly recommend the superb Estadios de España website, by Chris Clements.
