  • Real Betis-Tenerife

We're back at the Benito Villamarín tonight, for the first time in three weeks, for an important game against Tenerife (kick-off 8pm). The visitors have struggled away all season, but Betis will be without African Nations Cuppers N'Diaye and Kadir, plus suspended Rennella and Piccini, as well as, most likely, injured Lolo Reyes, so Pepe Mel has some shuffling to do for his first home game back. A win is pretty vital to keep on the heels of the leaders.

Another three points: Betis 3, Tenerife 1. And it really did feel like old times: a nicely positive Pepe Mel-style performance, three goals shared between Rubén Castro and Jorge Molina, and broad smiles all around the Benito Villamarín. It's been a long time.
Yes, there were some dicey moments - especially just after Tenerife's soft equaliser on 55 minutes - but overall Betis controlled the game pretty convincingly, and Rubén's second goal was quite brilliant. One of the side effects of re-employing Pepe Mel is that he and his star striker have a very close bond, which is perhaps why Rubén looked more up for it yesterday than he has in a while.
Man of the Match, though, was undoubtedly Dani Ceballos, who started in the centre of midfield for the first time. Watching a kid so young that his mum has to give him a lift to the ground pulling the strings of a professional football team is quite something, and it's easy to see why Chelsea are rumoured to be interested. Let's hope it's a while before they get their greedy hands on him - he's a Bético legend in the making.

Betis: Adán; Molinero, Bruno, Jordi Figueras, Varela; Cejudo (Matilla, m. 60) (Fabián, m. 82), Xavi Torres, Dani Ceballos, Pacheco (Lolo Reyes, m. 70); Jorge Molina, Rubén Castro.

      Goals: 1-0, m. 47: Rubén Castro (pen) 1-1, m. 55: Ifrán. 2-1, m. 68: Rubén Castro. 3-1, m. 79: Jorge Molina.

      Attendance: 30,054

Real Betis won like in the good old days with Pepe Mel on the bench. Ruben Castro and Jorge Molina were the best.
