Real Betis fans have been given exactly the Christmas present they wanted, following an announcement by the club that from Monday, Pepe Mel will return to the manager’s hot-seat.
It was always on the cards, but with other candidates interested in the position, Real Betis were playing those cards very close to their chest, when it came to their next choice of manager and having held talks with several different options.
However, the news that Beticos fans have been waiting to hear most of all, has finally and officially been announced by the club – Pepe Mel is the man chosen and will make his return on Monday.
Whilst the contract is initially just until the end of the current season, there’s a strong level of confidence from the new Real Betis board that Pepe Mel can reignite their campaign for promotion, so have offered an option for two further years, if that objective is achieved.
Juan Merino, who has been in temporary charge of the first team, will resume his role as B team manager on Monday, with the club announcing their gratitude for his handling of the team, during what has been a difficult and uncertain period.
