Es un magnifico delantero y la verdad no dudo de la capacidad goleadora que tiene, eso si, le debe la mitad de los goles al sueco Nilsson.

Ya hable de este jugador hace tiempo y os lo dije que a pesar de ser el 2º maximo goleador europeo del año pasado no seria tan caro, desde luego no deja de ser una incognita de si fucionaria en una gran liga pero cualidades no le faltan y encima gran tirador de faltas que no tenemos , si lo ficha el "boro" por 8 mill seria pa echar a los leones a Momparlet and company....

Southgate set to smash Riverside transfer record

Brazilian striker Afonso Alves is undergoing a medical with Middlesbrough.


Boro have been locked in talks with Heerenveen and are ready to smash their transfer record to secure the services of Alves.

A fee of over £12million looks to be on the cards, which will dwarf the £8.15million outlay to bring in Italian misfit Massimo Maccarone from Empoli in August 2002.

The deal for Alves has been further complicated by the involvement of the Dutch Football Association, after AZ Alkmaar claimed they had a deal to sign the player.

Riverside boss Gareth Southgate accepts he is taking a risk in investing such a large sum on one player, but is confident Alves has the pedigree to make his mark in the Premier League.



Chance


Southgate told the club's official website: "By being willing to break the club's transfer record, the chairman is showing how much he is prepared to back the club.

"You take chance in signing any player - whether they be Brazilian, Dutch or any other nationality - especially if they are a striker because they will be judged on the goals they score.

"Alves has scored a huge number of goals in Holland and was a regular scorer before that in Sweden too, while he has also been included in the Brazil national team.

"The other big thing, which is obviously important, is that he wants to be here."

Southgate is confident Alves will provide the fire-power to ease Middlesbrough's relegation worries, with only doomed Derby behind the shot-shy Teessiders in the goals scored column.

Finisher


He said: "It is difficult to compare him with a particular type of player, but he is a finisher and he wants to get in the box whenever he can.

"A lot of modern strikers do much of their best work outside the box but Alves likes to get in the box, which is what we want. We want someone to get in there and score goals."

One further sticking point in the Alves deal could come from the fact that he is yet to be granted a work permit.

The initial application was automatically rejected because Alves has not played in 75 per cent of his country's games over the last two years, with the appeal to be heard on Thursday.

Bueno veremos ahora si en la premier no cae un mito para muchos del que yo me excluyo. Ahora es cuando debe demostrar que verdaderamente vale, este tio como no tenga un jugador al lado que juegue para él lo va a pasar mal en el Boro. Es un delantero muy estático y el año pasado le ayudó bastante Nilsson, que porcierto se ha ido cedido al Allborg.

No ha jugado nada en el Saint-Etinne este año y se ha ido cedido esta semana al Aalborg.

De los que pudieran venir, esta claro que experimentos con gaseosa, y Ricardo Oliveira es un seguro de vida, pero lo que nos hizo con la espantá y las ganas de dejarnos tirado no se me olvida.

Este Alves es una maquina y un goleador. ¿Que opinais?
